George’s Story – Building Confidence Through Practical Skills

At just 13 years old, George is already beginning to develop confidence, communication and practical future skills through his involvement with CareBridge Academy. As a home educated young person, George has had opportunities to explore learning in a flexible and practical way, allowing him to build skills and confidence outside of a traditional classroom environment. Alongside his home education journey, he has already successfully achieved Functional Skills English and continues to develop a growing interest in digital skills, presentations and professional communication.

George currently supports CareBridge Academy with age-appropriate digital and administrative tasks, including helping create PowerPoints, supporting presentation ideas and developing confidence using online systems and communication tools. Through this experience, he has gradually developed greater confidence in expressing ideas, using technology creatively and understanding the importance of organisation, professionalism and teamwork. His journey demonstrates how small opportunities and practical experiences can help young people begin developing confidence and future-focused skills from an early age.

One of the key reasons CareBridge Academy developed the Future Readiness Workshops for young people aged 13–15 was to help create the type of supportive and encouraging environment that allows young people to build confidence at their own pace. George understands first-hand how valuable encouragement, practical experiences and positive support can be when developing communication and future-readiness skills. His involvement in the workshops helps ensure sessions remain relatable, engaging and youth-focused for other young people taking part.

At CareBridge Academy, we believe every young person develops differently and that confidence often grows through positive experiences, encouragement and opportunities to participate. George’s story is a reminder that practical skills, confidence building and future-readiness support can begin long before adulthood and that young people are capable of achieving far more than they often realise when given the right encouragement and opportunities.
